Report From the Young Dems BBQ

Yesterday afternoon I attended the Southern Fairfield County Young Democrats’ BBQ in Stamford. Despite the pouring rain the event attracted a good sized crowd including several local politicians. Dick Blumenthal, Ned Lamont, Jim Himes, and Dan Malloy each made short speeches to the drenched crowd. State Senator Andrew McDonald was there along with Reps. Fox, Tong, Perone, and Morris. There was also a large delegation of Democratic candidates from Norwalk including Mayoral candidate Walter Briggs.

CT Blogger posted Jim Himes’ speech over at MLN and promises to have more video from the event up in the next few days.

I hope CT Blogger puts up Dan Malloy’s speech. Malloy was on fire yesterday. Best line: “They’re [his fellow speakers] Democrats. They believe as you believe that we were put on this earth not for ourselves, not for a good time, but to make this place better for our having lived in it. Many Republicans I know don’t really believe that, and that has been proven by this Bush administration.”

Malloy thinks that everything touched by him gets better immediately … I wonder how all of the time that he spent away from Stamford made “this place better for having lived in it” when he was still the Mayor last year … he should take a closer look at his city’s ability to determine market values for commercial properties and he should tell the Stamford taxpayers the truth about why they need to pay so much more in taxes while the owners of commercial properties get their taxes cut … if he wants to criticize someone, then he should look at the specific individuals working for him in Stamford, not at Republicans …

  2. How old is that younster? You have to be at least 25 years old in order to run for congress.

A truely disgusting remark; and not one that lends itself or the speaker towards accomplishing anything for the common good.

Like Afghanistan? removing the Taliban and bringing basic rights to woman. Like Iraq? removing a brutal dictator who killed hundreds and thousands of his own people.

Or is it that we just make “this place” better?
