According to a great account posted at IonHartford, which is written by Hartford city council member Luis Cotto, Abe Giles was nominated by an 8-5 vote over incumbent State Rep. Marie Lopez Kirkley-Bey by the Hartford DTC for the 5th district seat.
Abe Giles, remember, is a parking magnate who has been involved in one or two (or more) of Mayor Eddie Perez’s scandals.
I know, I know. I’d like to say that I can’t believe it… but yeah, I can believe it.
Apparently, Kirkley-Bey’s fate was sealed when she supported I. Charles Mathews last year over Perez. The DTC in Hartford is largely controlled by the Mayor (and New Haven thinks they have problems…). Kirkley-Bey is not going down easy, though, and we can look forward to her fighting for her seat in a primary.
