Glastonbury Republican to Challenge Courtney

Glastonbury Republican Matthew Daly (formerly of Hebron) has announced that he’s going to run against Joe Courtney in 2010.

Daly spearheaded the “vote yes” to a constitutional convention campaign last fall. He ran for the state senate in 2006 on a platform of repealing the income tax and opposition to abortion and gay marriage.

If he is the nominee, it’ll be the first time in recent memory that the 2nd district won’t have a candidate from southeastern Connecticut running (Courtney is from Vernon, Rob Simmons is from Stonington, and Sam Gejdenson was from Bozrah). Is this now a Greater Hartford seat?

An FIC guy who lost to Edith Sprague in 2006 by 8,996-20,619. That’s a sure-fired loser.

Probably the best Chris Healy could do under the circumstances. I mean after the way the CT GOP failed to deliver to Sean Sullivan anything but Andrew Powlaheny in 2008, who would want to run?

Another cakewalk for Courtney in 2010 at this rate.

Who the hell is Edith Sprague?

    Anderson Scooper….

First, its Edith Prague. she’s only been in the State Legislature for close to 20 years.

Second, I am hearing there is another candidate out there to run in CT-2.

This person was making the rounds on Thursday night at CTGOP HQ in New Britain.

Outside of Dodd’s attempt at self-destruction, to date Healy’s CT GOP has been nothing more than Sound & Fury.

Are you guys going to be dumb enough to back a Caligiuri primary against the Fuddy-Duddy?

And just what pray tell has Nancy been up to?

Her party’s in total disarray; both chambers Democratic caucus’s behave more like a herd of cats than not.

She has BOTH U.S. Senate seats in her party….one held by a guy loathed by his own party, and the other by the entire nation!

The last well orchestrated legislative stunt by her party resulted in near riot conditions and couldn’t get withdrawn fast enough, and won’t be forgotten by a large percentage of Roman Catholics.

Roman Catholics I might point out, make up over 40% of the Democratic electorate with almost half of that attending weekly.

Should anyone think that other religiously observant voters somehow missed the whole fiasco, don’t bet the farm on it.

Now then…..what was it you were saying about Healy?

    ACR–

The Roman Catholic stunt was pulled by your side. A politically orchestrated over-reaction to a simple public hearing. And I doubt it gained you many votes, despite your sound and fury. When was the last time the GOP had a Catholic nominee for President?

The Democratic Party has been and will always be, in disarray. So what? Under Ms. DiNardo’s quiet leadership we have picked off three House seats, and gained 3:1 and 2:1 majorities in the CT House and Senate. I’ll take that over idle boasting any day.

Finally, you didn’t answer my question. Is you GOP bloggers going to be stupid enough as to back a Caligiuri primary against Rob Simmons?

I can’t wait for this showstopper to reveal themselves. Don’t leave us hanging, Weicker Liker…

  9. In other news; it appears the Northwest Chabad is readying their next move and has found some new friends.

    Litchfield Synagogue gets some help.

Has this guy ever won an election? Why is he a good candidate for congress?

I’ll let this particular candidate reveal their interest when they choose to.

The 2nd is Courtney’s to lose for the foreseeable future. IN fact, it was even Sam G’s to lose – and he did. Simmons didn’t win, Sam lost. Simmons then did a good job of hanging on, but Courtney is doing an excellent job. In fact, I have never been more proud of my Congressman as I am with Joe.

Let’s face facts, this seat will not be competitive for R’s for a long time to come unless Courtney takes up naked jogging through the district.

Just the fact that Weicker Liker’s post cannot generate any interesting speculation shows that there’s no one on the bench.

  13. Are there any prominent Republicans from the 2nd district who could get into the race and have a chance? I’m not from the New London area, but from my parts I cant think of anyone outside of possibly Tony Guglielmo, the longtime state senator for Vernon, Bolton, and Stafford. He hasn’t run a serious campaign in a while, but he is very popular in Courtney’s backyard (now a Vernon resident, Joe is originally from Stafford). Something nationally would have to change or we’ll have to see a transplant for this district to be competitive.

We go from an 83 vote victory to a 2/3 majority to this year, we don’t even see a legitimate opponent stepping forward. Looks like Joe and his staff are certainly doing something right.

    Will…..

Here are some clues as to the identity of the “Mystery Candidate” in CT-2…

    1) This person lives in Madison;

    2) This person is sharp on foreign policy and served in the Federal Goverment under President’s Reagan & George H.W. Bush;

    3) It is a woman

    Guess away!!!

Phew, glad that mystery is solved. A nobody from Madison whose claim to fame was working as a State dept flack two decades ago. Truly stellar find.
