Looking for Labor Savings

The governor thinks that about $77.3 million in labor costs can be saved this year, if state employee unions are willing.

The current deficit for this fiscal year is about $667 million.

How likely are concessions from the unions? I guess we’ll see. However, whatever concessions are made for this fiscal year, they’ll be nothing compared to what the unions will be asked to give back for the next two years.

  1. There’s a little more than three months left in the FY to realize these savings and as each day passes the liklihood of achieving these savings is reduced.
