The Senate Republican caucus unveiled a new website yesterday – CTbudgetfacts.com – that gives visitors the chance to walk through the state’s nearly $8 billion budget deficit.
If you choose to take the guided tour, Sen. Dan Debicella will walk you through not only the background of how state government raises and spends money, but also an assessment of the various plans proposed by Governor Rell, Legislative Democrats, and the Republicans. It takes about ten minutes.
The self-guided option gives you the same tour at your own pace, with the extra addition of the ‘state budget edition’ of How a Bill Becomes a Law, minus the singing and dancing.
The presentation highlights the challenges faced by legislators as they grapple with a massive budget deficit. It also points to the fact that unless some deal is struck, the summer at the Capitol could be the most contentious since 1991.
