Rell and the CT Republican Party – Contrasting Fortunes

The New London DAY has an insightful opinion piece by former editorial page editor Morgan McGinley regarding the contrast between Governor Rell and the Connecticut Republican Party. The op ed piece can be summarized in the following quotes –

The national and state economic woes have not yet hurt the governor with voters. Rell continues to outflank Democrats in the legislature and win the consistent favor of state residents by dint of an earnest demeanor and a carefully cultivated public relations campaign.

The unfortunate part for Republicans is that Gov. Rell’s personal appeal has not translated into significant Republican gains.

But Healy’s words remain prophetic. Elections are won by organization and vigorous campaigns. In both categories, the state Republicans need to outwork Democrats to make gains.

Did I read that article correctly?

It said Jim Amann has dropped out of the governor’s race?

I saw that too, but Amann had an envelope stuffing at his campaign HQ yesterday, and his campaign was sending out releases on Friday. Weird mistake to make, unless there’s something we don’t know.

  3. Off topic, but the NYT has a map that shows the foreclosure rate by town:

It’s for the NY region, so not all of CT is in there, but about the western half or so is.
