McKinney May Be Close in 4th CD

Politico is reporting that State Senator John McKinney is close to a decision in the 4th Congressional District:

McKinney is expected to make a final decision soon after the state legislative session ends June 3, but he has already been making moves in preparation for a campaign, according to several GOP sources.

Former Congressman Christopher Shays doesn’t mince many words when asked about his views on the matter:

“If he runs — and I think he will — he will have a very good likelihood of winning, and if he is elected, he will be an outstanding public servant,” Shays said. “He is just an exceptional young man who really has a lot to offer. I’m excited about him running, and if he does run, he has my total support.”

Nice of Chris Shays to come out so fast for the defeat of the guy who extended the olive branch to him after the election by recommending Shays to head the Peace Corps, the job Shays said he wanted so badly. But no surprise, really. That’s Shays for you.

Just why did the Democrats try to help him out anyway? What’s the old saying? “No good turn goes unpunished”?

Yeah, how dare Shays, a long-time Republican congressman, turn against a Dem who offered him a job in order to get him out of the picture for a rematch. And how dare he support another Republican.

Himes is in trouble. But at least he will have Jodi Rell and Chris Dodd at the top of the ticket to save him. Oh, Jodi’s an R and Dodd is an albatross. Never mind.

    Go McKinney!

  3. If Dodd ever delivers on his promise to Jane Hamsher and reveals the names of his contributors… er… uhh… reveals the names of the banks that got the $10 trillion in Federal Reserve bailouts… then Himes may have problems if Goldman got gazillions more in bailouts.

It sure seems like the single biggest beneficiary of all the bailouts was Goldman. And even if Himes cut his ties to GS long ago, he is now a member of the House Financial Services Committee. And I believe Himes has yet to sign onto the Ron Paul / Alan Grayson (liberal Dem populist from Orlando) Audit the Fed! bill. I presume Himes’ inaction is an indication that he believes the recipients of the $10 trillion of our tax money should remain secret.

McKinney / Simmons and Caligiuri should all immediately issue press release demanding that Dodd and Himes call for the immediate release of the names of banks that got the $10 trillion.

Assuming that Himes and Dodd (who has voted against revealing the names) fail to deliver the names within one week, McKinney, Simmons & Caligiuri should all start telling people that Himes & Dodd oppose transparency and oppose good government.

Then when people really start to feel the inflation in the price of consumer goods, the three Rs should remind the voters that Dodd (and to a lesser extent Himes) were complicit in the runaways inflation… if not directly responsible for failing to do their duty… choosing instead to mimic the GOP by acting as a Rubber Stamp for Obama.

  4. Wow, McKinney’s running for CT04? Whatta bombshell!

Want the list of people (in Fairfield) who’ve been anticipating this for about 10 years?

Next up – the name of the (Fairfield) Democrat who will successfully run for McKinney’s seat in 2010.

BTW, former State Senator John will remain a popular fellow in private life, as Himes will retain his seat.

I’m telling you guys, we need a return to Republican rule, and Congress-critters that will help STOP OBAMA.

  6. The problem is the GOP (currently led by Boehner & McConnell who are pro-bailout… and also ignored the likes of Ted Stevens & Duke Cunningham for years) has proven itself incapable of good governing.

Most of the Gang of 535 need to be shown the door – Ds & Rs alike.

  7. I’m telling you guys, we need a return to Republican rule, and Congress-critters that will help STOP OBAMA.

Sounds good to me. I like job growth.

  8. Me too. If PoopyScoopy’s gonna get all bent out of shape about it, that’s like a bonus …

  9. AndersonScooper

    STOP OBAMA
    VOTE CALIGIURI!

  10. To all the diehard Dems… please read this FDL-posted letter from liberal Dem Congressman Alan Grayson

    http://action.firedoglake.com/page/content/graysonletter/

Grayson is endorsing Ron Paul’s HR 1207 – Audit the Fed! HR 1207 has a Senate counterpart S604. To oppose either of these bills is to oppose good government.

We know Senator Dodd opposes transparency of the Fed and, in this case, strongly opposes good government – witness his vote opposing the release of the names of his campaign contributors… er… uh… opposing the release of the names of the banks that got the $10 trillion in money that grew on trees!

But where are Himes and Murphy (my Congressman)?

Oh wait… maybe Himes is grabbing a drink with the guys who run the Federal Reserve… er… uhh… run Goldman… er… uh… oh… what’s the difference?!

  11. Yeah, how dare Shays, a long-time Republican congressman, turn against a Dem who offered him a job in order to get him out of the picture for a rematch. And how dare he support another Republican.

You’ve got your facts so hilariously wrong….Shays approached Himes for the job, and who exactly believes Shays is the best candidate to take back the seat? He sold his house in the district! He’s out for good.

  12. The question here is whether McKinney can get the same Democratic crossover support that saved Shays in 2004 and 2006 and kept the race close in 2008.
