Foley Enters Senate Race

Tom Foley has announced his bid to upset Sen. Chris Dodd. He has, according to a campaign press release, filed campaign paperwork and has even opened up a website, TomFoley2010.com. He has also set up a Twitter account, almost a requisite for a 2010 campaign.

Said Foley:

“Over the past few months I have been contacted by many friends and citizens from across the state telling me that we need a Senator in Washington who understands business and the economy, who knows how jobs are created, and who will focus on and can be trusted to serve the needs of our state. […] As a Washington outsider, I will bring fresh ideas, new energy, and real expertise to the problems we face in Connecticut and across the country.”

Foley stressed his “real world experience” in business as a major selling point.

Foley is the latest Republican to enter the race, having been preceded by Rob Simmons and State Sen. Sam Caligiuri.

Well, Simmons better have a fantastic quarter.

Because Tom Foley is a Bushie who will be able to raise $10 Million or more.

Just so people understand, ex-Ambassador Foley just married Leslie Fahrenkopf, daughter of Frank Fahrenkopf who happened to be RNC chair under President Reagan. (1983-1989). Leslie also is a V-P at Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp.

This Greenwich power couple is about connected as they get.

PS– Is it true that Foley was a drinking buddy of W’s at Harvard Business School?

  3. TheRealNixon

Foley will be crushed by a real public servant Rob Simmons. The very fact that Foley is from Greenwich is a sign that he is simply an old school Republican not to mention he served directly under George Bush.

  4. AndersonScooper

And Simmons wasn’t a Bush loyalist? lol.

Look, I challenge you to find one instance where Rob as an elected official stood up to the Bush administration.

    Please, give us a citation.

And at least Foley is honest about where he’s coming from. (Although his social strata would never admit either Simmons or Waterbury’s Caligiuri.)

    Your side is screwed.

  5. PoopyScoopy, the more you post the more you confirm your abject terror.

It’d be funny if it wasn’t such a slow-motion train wreck.

    Abject terror? Of what?

    1) The fuddy-duddy guy who lost in 2006 to Joe Courtney?
    2) One of W’s point people in Iraq under Paul Bremer?
    3) Sam Caligula who embraces the FIC agenda?

I’m thinking even Eddie Perez could beat your eventual nominee.

  7. 1) The fuddy-duddy guy who lost in 2006 to Joe Courtney?

Closer to a real live “Rambo” than anyone you’ll ever meet.

    Re: #2 ????

    3) Sam Caligula who embraces the FIC agenda?

Constantly misspelling names of Italian origin is right there with calling every Spanish speaking male “Jose”.
It’s bigoted and I’m surprised you do it and even more surprised that GC let’s you get away it.

    The “FIC agenda”???
Like keeping the government out of churches?

There’s more than enough precident for that; the folks on the Mayflower came here primarly to get away from a government just like that.

  8. The very fact that Foley is from Greenwich is …

In general terms I tend to shrink away from the nuevo WASP, arrogant, self-important lower Fairfield County stuffed shirts – HOWEVER, I’ve met this guy and surprisingly he acts NORMAL.

I was surprised too, but he’s a nice guy.

Just like this old School Republican?

    A. Scoop – Let them fight amongst themselves. Sen. Dodd is working it hard and all the inside baseball campaign jargen is miniscule when compared to what he is doing in Washington. As this economy comes back to life and people get back to work over the next year and a half, people from Greenwich to Stafford to San Diego will have Chris Dodd to thank.
