It’s Monday again.

4th of July fireworks displays may suffer as a result of the squeeze on local governments.

The governor’s staff is working to ensure that the state will keep running in case a budget doesn’t pass before the beginning of the new fiscal year.

Bridgeport’s city council is working to dissolve the city’s port authority before a new state law goes into effect that would forbid them to.

The governor says she is unwilling to raise taxes to close the deficit, but borrowing money is just fine. Those taxes can just go up when she’s good and gone.

Lastly, the Courant ran a weird article about how dull the state flag is over the weekend, I guess because it was Flag Day. I agree with this guy, the flag is fine.

What else is going on?

  1. Lastly, the Courant ran a weird article about how dull the state flag is over the weekend, I guess because it was Flag Day. I agree with this guy, the flag is fine.

I saw that as well and was surprised that the article’s author had done no research.

Comment 15 got it fairly right.

  2. The state flag wasn’t adopted until more than 250 years after the colony/state was founded. It is drawn from the motto of the founder of the Saybrook colony which was in turn drawn from a Psalm implying that the English were right to not only “transplant” but also to “uproot the heathen.” It’s nothing to be proud of and it’s late adoption to me means that it would be fine to change it. Who cares if we are “the land of steady habits?” Surely we can do better.
