Hi Ho Silver, Away!

With just seven precious days left until the end of the second fundraising quarter, federal candidates are pushing hard to put up big fundraising totals and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Foley is no exception.

According to DC’s The Hill, the former Ambassador to Ireland will be hosting a shindig in Greenwich tomorrow.

Foley is a former Bush pioneer – the designation given to those who raise $100,000 toward the former president’s campaign – and his event will feature another pioneer ambassador, Craig Stapleton, who was ambassador to the Czech Republic and France. Stapleton’s wife, Debbie, is a cousin of the president.

The event will be heavy on former Ambassadors.  In addition to Foley and Stapleton, former Ambassador to El Salvador Charles Glazier will also be in attendance.

According to the article, the event will be at the home of Grant and Karen Gregory.  Mr. Gregory is on the Board of Directors of the LPGA.

  1. Greenwich: America’s political money tree.

If he puts up impressive fundraising numbers… well, I still don’t think he’ll be a viable candidate in the long run, but he’ll make it more interesting.

And Foley will try to have us believe he is a “Washington outsider?”
Looks like he thinks very little of the voters’ collective intelligence. He is the epitome of a Washington insider!

Please, please, please nominate him, Republicans!

If he’s the epitome of a Washington insider, what does that make Chris Dodd?

Simmons has got to be shitting bricks.

Foley will be able to raise $10-$20 Million, and if Rob can’t demonstrate the ability to raise something near those numbers, he isn’t going to be the nominee.

  5. PoopyScoopy, always ready with advice for a Republican … Thanks loads, Ed …

    Red5–

You don’t think what I’m saying is true?

Two months ago Simmons was all over my TV sets, wearing a wide grin, while thinking that the nomination was his, all his.

Now he has the Republican inner circle lining up behind Foley. The ex-Ambassador holds all those ties to the Bush clan, plus his new father-in-law, Frank Fahrenkopf headed the RNC under Reagan for six years? Yow-ser.

Also, did you bother to Google who that Greenwich fundraiser host is? W. Grant Gregory is COO at Cerberus Capital Management, one of the largest private equity firms in the world. Who knows how much they’ll raise for Foley, in just one evening.

Foley is hanging out with the big, big boys of the Republican inner sanctum. Is Simmons about to get royally screwed?

  7. Greenwich: America’s political money tree.

Well, to paraphrase Willie Sutton, that’s where the money is.

Also, did you bother to Google who that Greenwich fundraiser host is? W. Grant Gregory is COO at Cerberus Capital Management, one of the largest private equity firms in the world. Who knows how much they’ll raise for Foley, in just one evening.

Cerberus paid $7 4 billion for Chrysler, and that didn’t turn out so well… (Well, they had co-investors, they weren’t alone in that, but they were the bulk). It also owns 51% of GMAC. So its ventures into the automotive world haven’t been good.

Dan Quayle has long been associated with Cerberus. Remember after 9/11/01 how all these politicians were expressing grief about what had happened, etc. Remember seeing Dan Quayle then? Well, you wouldn’t, because he was stuck in Hong Kong on a trip for Cerberus and couldn’t get back to the states as all flights were cancelled…

  8. Speaking of wealthy people interested in becoming Senators, any news on Jack Orchulli? He seemed to be making the rounds, but has been quiet as of late.

Also, there might be two Simmons’ in the race to replace Dodd.

To help round out everyone’s perspective, please note:

Mrs. Foley, i.e. Leslie Fahrenkopf is a V-P at Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp.

Frank Fahrenkopf heads the American Gaming Association.

  10. Weicker Liker

Mrs. Foley is also a former White House counsel.
