  1. This is pretty impressive. That news combined with his response I saw on his facebook/twitter to the Governor on the bills is making him look like the guy I want to see run against Gov. Moody. He came out the strongest.

agreed. i think he has the strongest credentials of the candidates.

Or maybe the just least pathetic.

  4. Realistically, Malloy is the only Democrat with a shot at taking on Rell. A mayor with a city which went under a remarkable transformation while he was in charge AND nearly 300K in the bank? Just by browsing around a little it seems like he’s the only one who knows what a Democrat needs to do to win.

Then again, Amann is the only one actually in the race…

Malloy has a very effective stump speach. He answers questions directly and has enough knowledge of the issues and the possible solutions that Governor Press Release will not be able to keep up. He has learned a lot from the failed 2006 campaign. Hopefully, this time the unions will recognize he is their best chance for a Democratic governor.

  6. The ball is in the SOTS’s court. I think it’s pretty clear that Malloy will, once again, go all the way with the Governor’s race. If that requires a primary then so be it. Given her run in ’06, it’s an open question if Susan Bysiewicz is willing to really take on Malloy.

  7. AndersonScooper

Anyone heard anything about Lamont possibly running?

  8. The ball is in the SOTS’s court.

I just don’t see how she can outside of her name recognition. I saw her stump and it is forced, awkward, and full of factual problems and few ideas. Stacked up side to side, Malloy takes it hands down. He’s done some solid things in Stamford and isn’t in Hartford like she is. Plus that whole CEO thing she brings up (that was discussed here earlier) is total BS.

  9. AndersonScooper

Brent, I’ve got to agree with you about the stump speeches, although in the general election I don’t think they matter a heck of a lot. I also think Susie is much better positioned against Rell than Malloy will ever be.

Back to the stump speeches, it’s true that Susie needs a complete makeover. Her friends aren’t being her friends if they tell her otherwise…

you would think a sitting Governor palying to her base by saying no new taxes would have raised more than $20k this quarter.

5 words: Stick a fork in her.

  11. AndersonScooper

Seriously folks, the Every Other Day Republican has gone completely AWOL.

Fifteen days without a new post?

Please don’t tell me that Chris Healy has given up blogging.

  13. Where has the Gov. (and presumably her staff) been lately? No budget negotiations (that we know of) going on, and a paltry fund raising effort to date. IF she is running again, (and that is a BIG if), why give Malloy a running start? Is she that arrogant? I doubt anyone on her staff (or the Gov. herself) reads this blog, let alone posts here, but I’d love to know what their strategy is here. From the outside, it certainly doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

If Chris Healy just got married, as ACR suggests, do you really expect him to blog while he’s on his honeymoon? Is that what you’re saying?

  15. Pintsize: You keep telling yourself that if it helps you sleep better at night. Me, I know I didn’t get a single letter or call from her during the quarter (you may have noticed there was this thing called governing she was doing), so I look at it as $20,000 she raised without even trying.

Ed: Again, just STFU. (See my post under “Keeping Score.”) You embarrass yourself, or you would if you were capable of feeling shame.

FWIW I’ve gotten a couple letters. That said, she clearly isn’t trying very hard. Governor Rell should have little trouble raising enough to qualify for public financing if/when she decides to put some muscle into her finance operation.

  17. AndersonScooper

Well, I’ve just heard it from a reliable source that indeed, Chris Healy just got married, and is in fact honeymooning.

    Congrats Chairman!

  18. Bruce Rubenstein

where did he honeymoon ? Ireland..near the Dodd cottage?

  19. (you may have noticed there was this thing called governing she was doing)

Now that you mention it, I definitely didn’t notice that.

But you’re right, I’m sure she can raise the money when she gets around to it.

  20. Where has the Gov. (and presumably her staff) been lately? No budget negotiations (that we know of) going on, and a paltry fund raising effort to date. There is essentially no such thing as someone getting “a running start” under the taxpayer financing of campaigns system. Danny Maloy can qualify as early as he wants for the public funds and the Governor can qualify as late as she wants and they both will only be able to spend the same amount of money. The Governor will be able to EASILY raise her qualifying contributions. The system was set up to make it almost impossible for incumbents not to qualify for the government funds. For the life of me, I cannot fathom how that “doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. ” to you but hopefully you’ll now be able to comprehend it.

ctcenrist, I don’t read the newspapers much but I did indeed see that the Governor and the Democrat leaders of the legislature are in very active closed door budget meeting at the Governor’s residence so you’re clearly in the dark when you say “No budget negotiations (that we know of) going on.”

  21. Now that you mention it, I definitely didn’t notice that.

Then you certainly didn’t notice Don Williams and Chris Donovan legislating either then, correct? They can’t even come up with a budget that enough members in their own caucuses will approve let alone the rest of the legislature.

  22. BREAKING: Brian Lockhart reports ( blog.ctnews.com/politicalcapitol ) that Jimmy Amann raised a laughable $8,000 in his last quarter.

But — hey — he’s the only official candidate!

  23. AndersonScooper

Red5, you forgot the link to thePolitical Capitol story.

Tell me, what’s so laughable about $8,000, because if you break it down, that’s almost $90/day, (way more than the $50/day a New Haven panhandler brings in), and it’s not as if fundraising was ever Jim Amann’s forte in life.

Give Jim a break. He’s still hoping to broker his delegates at next Spring’s Dem convention, and who knows, if you were Malloy or Bysiewicz, wouldn’t you want Amann as your running mate in the Lt. Gov. spot?

  24. AndersonScooper

Christine Stuart has the story, too, over at CT News Junkie,
Amann: I am the Guinea Pig!

  25. Goo goo goo joob!

  26. AndersonScooper

Aren’t you supposed to bury bad news by releasing it on a Friday, heading into a summer weekend?

  27. I am sure Jimmy feels no need to “bury” this splendid showing. He’s the only candidate in the race — everyone else is an afterthought in Amannville.

It’s just a shame wee Pat Scully isn’t there to make this announcement. He and Jimmy were such a natural team. Almost as close a fit as Dannell and O-fer-Grosso …

  28. I would love to see Jimmy in a democrat primary debate. That would be more fun than a Don Rickles comedy show. Maybe I will send him a few bucks to encourage him. 🙂

  29. Visit Stamford, CT see why republicans and Democrats love this Mayor.
