Independent candidate John Pistone announced his bid for the Fifth Congressional seat late last week. Mr. Pistone, of Brookfield, is running on the slogan “Without hope, there is no change”.
The people of the 5th Congressional District of Connecticut deserve someone who is in touch with the daily, everyday concerns of parents, veterans, business owners, workers, teachers, nurses, students, trade workers and countless others. As a parent and union plumber, I could relate to the everyday concerns.
Mr. Pistone’s entry into the race makes three in the Fifth CD, as incumbent Congressman Chris Murphy was already facing a challenge from Republican candidate Justin Bernier.
For his part, Bernier joined with U.S. Senate candidate Rob Simmons to pen an op-ed piece for the Meriden Record-Journal last week which offered a strong defense of the F-22 fighter program which was cut last week from the Defense budget.
Thousands of Connecticut workers will probably lose their jobs because of these decisions. The cuts will also erode an industrial base that provides good wages and real opportunities for middle-class families in our state.
They strongly advocated restoration of funding for the F-22 program, which is critical to Pratt Whitney jobs in East Hartford and Cheshire, as well as the dozens of subcontractors that supply them.
