Dodd Has Prostate Cancer

Sen. Chris Dodd has been diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer, according to the Hartford Courant.

“It’s something that’s very common among men my age,” said Dodd, who is 65 and the father of two young daughters. “In fact, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point during their life.” Dodd, a Democrat who is up for re-election in November 2010, said he feels fine. “As you have probably noticed, I’m working some long and hard hours lately,” he said. “And that will continue.”

Though noted that it was caught early, there aren’t many further details about his condition.  The Senator will hold a press conference this afternoon at 2pm.

Get well soon, Mr. Dodd.

  1. Yeesh. It’s always something.

At least the prognosis for the long term is excellent when it’s caught early enough. Sounds like that’s the case here.

Guys, even though it ain’t fun, once you hit 40 you’ve got to get the exam yearly. Doing so will actually help keep healthcare costs down by detecting it early and treating it properly.

Have a speedy recovery, Sen. Dodd.

  2. I know only too well how cancer, even treatable cancer, devastates families.

Good luck, good health & Godspeed, Senator Dodd.

  3. Hope he gets better soon so we can focus on the issues.

  4. Get well soon Senator Dodd!

  5. Republitarian

Oh, we can still focus on the issues.

If Dodd were to obtain the care outlined by his own healthcare legislation given his age and the cost it would take to cure him, he just might be counseled on what to expect and how to make his last days comfortable.

Other than that, I am wondering if Dodd is planning on going to Britain or Canada for his cancer treatments for his prostate since their socialized care is so much more fair and superior.

Yeah – it’s a good thing Dodd doesn’t have to wait in line for treatment. He’ll probably be quite thankful for that.

    Oh the irony.

    Stay classy, CT Republicans.

We all wish Senator Dodd a speedy recovery and good luck

TP, you are correct to call CT Republicans classy but in this particular case I call them compassionate. Yes, we all care about the level of healthcare and are glad that Chris Dodd will get the attention he needs.

I’m sure if it was Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney or Sean Hannity that Democrats would be just as concerned as we are over Dodd.

  9. Not sure comparing Senator Dodd to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity in terms of their meaning to their respective parties is an accurate comparison.

  10. Stay classy, CT Republicans.

Not sure what this comment means. I, too, wish the Senator the very best of luck, and I am very glad that he was diagnosed before the nation switches to a rationed, Socialized health care system. If I was a Dodd, I’d be very grateful for this fact (even though Congress exempted itself from the latest failed iteration).
